Kitchen Makeover with Paint @ Magnolia Mommy Made

She painted her honey oak cabinets with Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen and her walls with Valspar in Soft Sunlight (eggshell). The trim was painted with Behr Premium Plus Interior Semi-gloss in Ultra White. The back of the cabinets got painted with Valspar chalkboard paint, and door knobs got a makeover with Rust-oleum oil rubbed bronze spray paint.  Such a beautiful transformation!

Gail @ My Repurposed Life on Painting Cabinets

Hi, I’m Gail, I blog at My Repurposed Life. I am so happy to be guest posting for my good friend Maryann on her great new blog Power of Paint! Sometimes I struggle with paint projects, but sometimes I get it right. My kitchen is one of those times I got it right. Giani GraniteI worked very hard on all the details when I painted my kitchen cabinets. How to Paint Oak CabinetsWash all surfaces with warm soapy water, then wipe down with TSP. How to Paint Oak Cabinets (3)Remove doors and drawer fronts, identifying each one. How to Paint Oak Cabinets (4)For best results use a sprayer. For this project I used an HVLP sprayer and a compressor.  I have since found a much better solution.  This electric paint sprayer will be the answer to all your problems. How to Paint Oak Cabinets (6) Use  Scotch Blue Painter’s tape to protect your edges. How to Paint Oak Cabinets (7)I used Dutch Boy Refresh (semi-gloss) in Sweetened White. How to Paint Oak Cabinets (8) I chose not to paint the inside of my cabinets.  Dishes would end up scuffing up the finish.  Were I to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing.   How to Paint Oak Cabinets (5)Hinges are very expensive. I chose to paint mine instead of replacing them. The power of paint is really awesome!

I got a great deal on the knobs, I found them on clearance at a fraction of the cost. It’s been over a year and a half since I painted my cabinets. The paint is holding up perfectly. Not a nick, scratch, or chip.  I know a lot of people would prefer a high gloss finish, however I think the semi-gloss is one reason these cabinets have held up so well.  I applied the paint in several thin layers.  Ladies, compare cabinets to how you polish your nails—several light coats last a lot longer than two heavy coats, that literally peel right off.  Smile For more details, please check out my post How To Paint Oak Cabinets.

Thank you Maryann for allowing me to crash your place today.  I am so happy the Power of Paint has it’s own permanent place. I know it’s going to be my “go-to” place when I am looking for ideas and inspiration.
